Sand filter
Removal of suspended solids and turbidity. The most common first stage in treatment lines; a graded sand–gravel bed provides depth filtration.

Sand filters pass water through a graded sand and gravel bed, retaining coarse sediment, suspended solids and the suspended matter that causes turbidity. A well designed sand filter removes contamination down to 20 microns.
The vessel is built from synthetic material (FRP), epoxy-coated carbon steel or 304/316 stainless steel as required. Operation can be manual, with a multiport automation valve, or PLC-controlled with face piping.
When the bed is loaded it is backwashed and performance returns to its original level, so running cost and maintenance are low. Vessel size is calculated from filtration velocity — a filter sized by guesswork either clogs early or lets the water through.

Other products in Media Filters
Activated carbon filter
Removal of free chlorine, taste, odour and organic matter. The most common way to remove chlorine ahead of reverse osmosis — membranes have a low tolerance to chlorine.
View →Iron–manganese filter
Oxidation and retention of dissolved iron and manganese in well water. The principal remedy for red–brown colour and sediment complaints.
View →Dolomite filter
Used to raise the pH of acidic water and correct its hardness balance. Particularly useful for stabilising the aggressive water leaving a reverse osmosis unit.
View →Filter media
Quartz sand, gravel, anthracite, activated carbon and special media. We supply media for bed replacement in existing filters.
